I was up at 4:30am. I packed and organized. We were at our ride’s house at 7:30am. We were at the car rental place at 8:00am. We were on the road by 8:20am.
The road trip to the Florida Panhandle was long and uneventful. As per family tradition, we only stopped for gas. We stopped twice. As Tony Campolo used to say: “When we enter the car, the gas tank will be full and your bladders will be empty. We will drive and drive until the gas tank is empty. At that time your bladders have permission to be full. But, woe to the person whose bladder should become full before the gas tank becomes empty.” It’s not quite that bad. But, it does make for getting a long trip over and done.
We arrived about 6:00pm, local time. We saw some of Jessie’s siblings. We checked into the hotel. We carried in our larder of food and the means of cooking it. Supper was fried tilapia. It had been a long day, so we didn’t stay up late. Jessie and I read Bible and prayed. We read Anne. We ended day 295 in another state.
Blessings: It ISN’T the journey; It IS the destination. Get that trip and over and done with. A clean bed that sleeps well. After a long trip, I don’t lecture myself about getting back to my own bed. Seeing Jessie’s siblings. They’re worth the journey and the borrowed bed.
